I remember her as the cute little ukulele-playing girl who won America's Got Talent. I saw that she's got a new movie on Disney+... which actually looks good (Hollywood Stargirl; a sequel, I think). Anyway... I checked out her Instagram and... damn. I forgot how good a singer she is. Such a beautiful voice. She's Norwegian singer-songwriter Marie Ulven... and she's incredible. I'll post a couple of my favorite tracks, but here's my Spotify playlist devoted to her. One of my favorite bands. Their sound is described as "Experimental Pop" and it's certainly a blend of genres. There's a definite Pet Sounds influence. In fact, someone once described it as a "drunken, coked-out Brian Wilson"... and I'd agree. Love this guy’s sound. A synth pop Ian Curtis. Definitely cinematic. Not many people know about this guy... which is a shame. His sound is similar to a Bon Iver. Anyway... here are some of my favorite tracks. |
