From 4 years of Donald Trump (and what it's ushered in) to the Covid apocalypse that has ripped through (and divided) communities, I've been thinking about what saddens me most... in this "new normal" we find ourselves in.
Donald Trump didn't invent racism, misogyny or nationalism (hell... I'm not even sure he believes that stuff; I think it's more likely that he's just a con man at heart). Hatred and prejudice were always there. He and his MAGA cult just gave it a voice... and gave permission to ditch the filter and say what was always on their mind. I'm just shocked to look around and see so many human cockroaches emerge from the shadows. Friends. Co-workers. Family members, even. Artists we once admired. To see some Facebook post (or retweet) that is just... awful. To know they think that way. I just can't fathom how something as simple and common sense as wearing a mask during a global pandemic became so partisan and fueled by ignorance. Just got back from a 7-night cruise (San Francisco, Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Ensenada). Great spa onboard (weekly pass). Won money in the casino. Had the best dim sum ever at Palette Tea House in San Francisco. Picked up a ton of Recchiuti chocolates at the Ferry Building. Walked State Street in Santa Barbara. Had lunch in Little Italy in San Diego. Finished with a phenomenal 90-minute massage in Ensenada (inexpensive place downtown). The highlight, though, was being at a covered bar on the top deck as we were leaving San Francisco. Foggy night. A little mist in the air. We passed directly under the Golden Gate Bridge. It was surreal.
I had to go to Cabo last week. Stayed at Pedregal for a couple nights (work-related; scouting trip; comped) and then moved to Mar Del Cabo (on my dime). Springsteen has recorded a lot of great music over the years, but he's also written tons of songs for other artists (usually friends; often helping produce the albums, as well) and/or given them away because he wasn't going to use them ("Because the Night" going to Patti Smith, for instance). Here are a few of my favorites. This is a beautiful song, but while the second video is the official recording... there's a bit of magic in watching her sing her way through the streets of Paris. Just lovely. I can't post this to my Eargasms playlist because it's not available on Spotify, but I love this Techno House track. Killer. Great to work out to. |
